Ministry Mission Statement: “The work of the altar should be a labor of love” and while that is certainly true, it is an indescribable privilege to care for the church environment, altars, sanctuaries, flowers and linens. As necessary, this work is coordinated with other pastoral committees, parishioners and priests to meet the numerous decorative, social and liturgical functions throughout the church year. The goal is to provide a sacred atmosphere so that all may grow in holiness while meeting the needs of the Church.
Current Ministry Activities: Decorate the Chapel, Altar, and Sanctuary for weekend Masses, funerals and special occasions. On a weekly basis, tend to plants, remove ‘old’ floral arrangements and create new ones.
Current Volunteer Opportunities: Three parishioners alternate purchasing flowers and floral arranging and two parishioners alternate removing old arrangements and washing vases and/or flower pots. Our goal is to double the size of this worthwhile Ministry! If you would like to learn how to arrange flowers, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your hidden floral talent while serving both the Lord and the parish! We will gladly share what we do, explain the routine and help with arranging flowers. Usually a commitment of two to three hours on a Friday afternoon or evening or a Saturday morning is needed. If you want to help but don’t want to arrange flowers, consider serving as a ‘clean-up’ volunteer. Usually a one-hour commitment is needed (i.e. Thursday-anytime following the Noon Mass).
Resource Requirements: There is a modest floral budget; however, parishioners are invited to donate toward flowers (i.e. in memory of loved ones, for anniversary celebrations, or other events). In appreciation, parishioner(s)’s intentions are included in the Bulletin.
Other Opportunities: Coordinators for the seasonal Easter Lily and Christmas Poinsettia orders and display. Coordinators or volunteers to assist with other seasonal indoor/outdoor decorating as needed.
